In a recent controversy in Bhagalpur, Bihar, JD(U) legislator Gopal Mandal is facing scrutiny for allegedly slapping a youth involved in a compensation protest. The incident unfolded in the Zero Mile Square area of the industrial police station, where a tragic road accident claimed the life of an elderly individual. The collision between a cyclist and a speeding truck resulted in severe injuries to the victim, ultimately leading to their demise.
In response, enraged family members staged a protest, blocking the main route from Zero Mile to Sabour and demanding compensation for their loss. The protest caused a three-hour roadblock, leading to significant traffic disruptions, with both Traffic DSP and local police officials arriving to manage the situation.
Amidst the protest, JD(U) legislator Gopal Mandal appeared at the scene, and tensions escalated when he allegedly slapped one of the deceased's family members who was demanding compensation. Despite the controversy, the youth downplayed the incident, describing Mandal as an elder brother and minimizing any apparent issues. In response to the accusations, Gopal Mandal offered clarification, stating that he acted in self-defense as he was being pulled and disturbed by the individuals involved.
Mandal also expressed his commitment to addressing the compensation demand, promising to write to the DM and the transport department to ensure compensation for the deceased's family. However, despite the clarification, the protest by agitated locals continued.
